Tip 3: The Perfect Shorts

DIY Turn Your Winter Jeans into Summer Shorts

First of all, I know we all have jeans in our closet that we just don’t wear anymore. It could be that they aren’t in style anymore, or that you just have new ones to replace them. But either way, grab a pair and some scissors and turn them into the perfect pair of jean shorts that can accompany you to the pool.

What you will need:

  • A pair of old jeans
    • From your closet, or take a trip to the local Goodwill and find some “mom jeans”
  • Scissors
  • Chalk (or something else to mark the jeans with)
  • Knife
  • Cheese grater

Directions:

1. Try on your jeans! (Take some pictures if they are mom jeans, it’s good for a laugh)
2. Mark where you want to cut them with the chalk. I found that about 2 inches down the inside seam was a good place.
3. Start cutting. I found that cutting at a diagonal was the best (longer inside seam, diagonal up to the outside seam).
4. Cut one leg, and then fold over and follow the same cut on the other leg. Don’t worry about making it perfect.
5. Once you have it cut, lay them out and figure out where you want them to fray.
6. Take the knife and make cuts in different directions where you want to destroy the jeans. I cut the pockets, and the bottoms of the shorts.
7. Take the cheese grater and rub it around the knife cuts. It will help destroy them.
8. Once your happy, throw them in the washer and dryer and it will help with the fraying.
9. Ta-da!

Let us know how these turn out if you decide to make them!
